Biography
of Kai Paul
What
interested you in bodybuilding and how long have you
been in training?
I
had always wanted to be big since a very young age
and at around 17-18 years old I really started training
hard up to three hours per day. So I said "what
can I train towards?" One of the older guys in
my gym competed and suggested bodybuilding to me and
I thought "why not?", so then the education
began on nutrition and training. I competed six months
later and, as they say, got bitten by the bug.
I
see that you decided to take training and fitness
seriously. What effect has any of this had on your
day-to-day life?
When
I started to take my training more seriously I realised
that nutrition was a big part of this. Once I had
better nutritional practices I became more energised
and confident. Also, the dedication, motivation, consistency,
persistence and goal setting skills I was learning
in the gym started to cross over into all areas of
my life. In fact, it gave me direction and I am now
doing very well at Uni because of it!
How
do you find the time to train and do you have any
tips for others?
Training
doesn't have to take over your life, just fit it in
somewhere. As Brits we spend too much time sat watching
our favourite soap, etc., instead put that time in
to the gym. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be, nor should
it be, your life - it's all about balance. There is
always time to train, consistency is what will bring
about your long-term goals. One hour out of 24, three
times a week is not much and you could benefit even
from this. Also, don't neglect your heart - do cardio
training. Most importantly, follow guidance but only
that which you know is sound.
Which
competitions have you entered and what would be your
ultimate achievement?
To
date, I have entered and placed as follows:
2004
BNBF Central - 5th place
2005
BNBF Central - 5th place
2005 BNBF Southern - 5th place
2005 NABBA Mr Plymouth - 4th place
2006 BNBF Central - 3rd place
2006 NABBA Mr Plymouth 3rd place
2007 BNBF Southern - 4th place
2007 ENROL-BNBF Metaphorm-training Best Poser Award
As
you can see, I had to work my way up.
My
ultimate goal is to stay loyal, be involved in natural
bodybuilding my whole life and become a professional.
That means winning the Britain competition, also to
win a show and be invited to the Britain competition
is a goal, the latter which I have now achieved.
I
hope to dispel myths about bodybuilders and also to
help up-and-coming bodybuilders with impartial advice,
again dispelling some myths along the way. I would
also like to see and promote bodybuilding and its
benefits to a wider audience, so they can benefit
like I have. In order to do this I'd like to inject
entertainment into the bodybuilding shows so that
the crowds coming to watch increase. I would also
like to take my PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology or
Nutrition.
How
did you become involved in ENROL-BNBF?
I
won the Best Poser Award at the BNBF Southern competition.
With this I was delighted to receive a 12-week scholarship
for the ENROL-BNBF Metaphorm-Training and I haven't
looked back since. They have helped me realise some
mistakes I have made and I feel 100% better and more
confident with them behind me.
So,
do you hope to make a real difference to the sport?
I'd
love to go down somewhere as having changed the sport
for the better; as great as bodybuilding is, there
are still areas which I feel need improvement.
What
improvements do you expect this year?
I'll
train hard and hope to improve from the previous year.
I am always looking to grow and get bigger, becoming
more proportionate by further improving weak areas
of my physique. Growing is not limited to physique
and I hope to make improvements to myself as a whole.
